Our Mission & Vision

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Greene College and Career Academy to generate a skilled and work-ready workforce whether a student chooses to attend college, start their career, or join the military.

Overview

Greene College & Career Academy (GCCA) provides an exciting opportunity for students in Greene and Taliaferro counties while also supporting the growth of local businesses. Our mission goes beyond education—we aim to strengthen the region’s economy by preparing a skilled, work-ready workforce. By helping to grow existing industries and attract new ones, GCCA plays a vital role in driving economic development and creating brighter futures for our students and community.

College & Advanced Academics

Dual Enrollment:

Greene College & Career Academy partners with Athens Technical College to give students the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school. Many Dual Enrollment courses are taught in person by GCCA instructors who are also certified as adjunct professors with Athens Tech.

Through Georgia’s Dual Enrollment program, the state covers up to 30 credit hours, saving students thousands of dollars in tuition while preserving their HOPE Scholarship hours.

Advanced Placement:

Because students are not eligible for Dual Enrollment until their junior year, Greene College & Career Academy strongly encourages college-bound students to take Advanced Placement (AP) courses during their freshman and sophomore years.

Colleges look for students who consistently challenge themselves academically. Admissions officers often compare the number of AP courses a student takes and passes against the total AP opportunities available at their high school. Taking AP courses early not only strengthens a student’s college application but also builds the skills and confidence needed for future Dual Enrollment and college-level coursework.

Career & Workforce Development

College is not the only path to success. At Greene College & Career Academy, students gain access to in-demand, skills-based careers that provide excellent job opportunities and above-average salaries.

Through hands-on training, GCCA students can begin mastering trades such as welding, construction, automotive repair, culinary arts, engineering, agriculture, and more—all of which align with Georgia’s 17 career clusters.

In many programs, students may earn certifications through Athens Technical College or become industry certified, giving them a competitive edge as they enter the workforce or continue their education.

Career Coaching

Career Coaches at Greene College & Career Academy are a valuable asset that enriches students' educational experiences and enhances their preparation for future endeavors. By tapping into the knowledge and expertise of members of the community, students benefit from personalized guidance and support as they navigate their high school years and plan for their future careers.

The role of Career Coaches extends beyond traditional academic support, encompassing various aspects of personal and professional development. These coaches provide students with valuable insights into effective study habits, the importance of extracurricular activities, organizational skills, decision-making processes, and practical skills such as budgeting and personal finance management. By sharing their real-world experiences and perspectives, Career Coaches offer students a holistic understanding of the skills and attributes needed for success in both academic and professional settings.
